Annas accidental entry into the food service industry resulted from rising tuition prices at the U together with her growing family. Her effortless and efficient cooking amazed her family and friends so it was no surprise to them when she announced her intention to open a small deli with her husband Lazaros.
The restaurant they opened together had seven tables. From the beginning Anna and Lazaros developed the Gardens menu with an emphasis on locally sourced produce and organic spices, nuts, and meats. Annas belief that food should be enjoyed with all the human bodys senses and should nourish the soul resulted in food that customers return to time and time again and miss like a good friend. Within eighteen months they expanded to fifteen tables. In five years their establishment sat 95. Anna and Lazaros with their four children continue to excel in their modest, beautifully designed and decorated diner and have been included in the Zagat Americas Best Restaurants since 1999.
